Authentic Kolhapuri chappals. Handcrafted by generational artisans in Maharashtra, engineered for the streets of Britain.
The Heritage
Every pair of Kapashi sandals is hand-braided and hand-stitched by generational master artisans in the workshops of Kolhapur — weeks of hand work that cannot be shortened, and should not be. Using only premium vegetable-tanned leather, our craftsmen employ techniques unchanged since the courts of the Maratha kings.
This is not nostalgia. This is living craft — and it arrives at your door carrying every generation of the hands that made it.
The Innovation
Traditional Kolhapuri footwear was built for a different world — the sun-baked stone floors and dry red earth of Maharashtra. A world away from rain-slicked London pavements.
We honoured the leather footbed above, and engineered what lies beneath. Two proprietary innovations, invisible to the eye, that make the difference between a sandal you admire and one you live in.
Hidden within the authentic leather upper, a premium cushioned insole delivers modern, all-day support without disturbing the sandal's slim, heritage profile. Your foot rests on luxury. The world sees only craft.
A durable, anti-slip rubber foundation specifically engineered for British streets and unpredictable weather. The grip that lets you walk confidently from Mayfair to Marylebone, whatever the sky decides.
Every Kapashi sandal is shaped on traditional historical wooden lasts — the same narrow, tapered forms that shaped footwear for the royal courts of Maharashtra. The silhouette that once marked standing.
A natural material that softens, stretches, and breathes with wear. Unlike mass-produced sandals built for instant comfort, your pair is built for a lifetime — and grows more beautiful with every step.
The Authentic Fit
Kapashi sandals are built on traditional historical wooden lasts — the narrow, tapered forms that have defined Kolhapuri footwear for centuries. This produces our signature streamlined fit. We do not view this as a limitation. We view it as the ultimate mark of bespoke authenticity.
Like all true handcrafted leather goods, a Kapashi sandal rewards patience. Over the first days of wear, the vegetable-tanned leather softens and molds to the unique contours of your foot. The leather is not stiff — it is structured. There is a difference.
"A chappal that fits perfectly from the first step was never made by hand."
A Kolhapuri craftsman's proverbA firm, close fit. Wear indoors for 30–60 minutes at a time. Let the vegetable-tanned leather warm to your foot. This is the leather meeting you for the first time.
Extend wear gradually. You will notice the leather yielding at pressure points — softening, conforming. A light application of leather conditioner accelerates this beautifully.
Your chappals have now taken the shape of your foot. This is the fit Kolhapuri craftsmen have been making for over 800 years. There is no other pair like it in the world.
The leather has a memory now — your memory. It grows more supple and more beautiful with every wear. This is the quiet luxury of something truly handmade.
Sizing Note
We recommend ordering your standard UK size. If you are between sizes, or have a wider foot, please size up by one. Unsure? Email us before you order — we would rather help you get it right than have you receive the wrong size.
